The history of Regina ECD

Regina Pacis Elimu School was founded in 1969 with a noble vision of providing quality early childhood education to children within the surrounding community at a time when nursery schools were scarce. The initiative was spearheaded by the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, whose mission was to nurture young learners through sound academic instruction grounded in strong Christian values.

The school was officially opened in 1973 by the then Rift Valley Provincial Commissioner, Isaiah Mathenge. The pioneering leadership was entrusted to Sr. Leone of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Africa, whose commitment and dedication laid a firm spiritual and academic foundation for the institution. Leadership was later handed over to the Little Sisters of St. Francis, who have faithfully continued to uphold and strengthen the founding vision.

Elimu Nursery

The institution was initially known as Elimu Nursery, reflecting its commitment to offering Elimu Bora—quality education. As the school expanded to include a primary section, it was renamed Regina Pacis Elimu School.

The name Regina Pacis is derived from Latin, meaning “Queen of Peace.” In the Catholic tradition, this title honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as a symbol of peace, guidance, and maternal care. The name embodies the school’s mission to cultivate a peaceful learning environment where learners grow academically, morally, spiritually, and socially.

Today, Regina Pacis Elimu School stands proudly as one of the leading institutions in Nakuru, recognized for its strong discipline, commitment to quality education, and dedication to implementing the core curriculum. Over the decades, many learners have passed through its doors and continue to make meaningful contributions to society
